A girl and her mother enter the dark loading platform of a truck, beginning a long and uncertain journey. It resembles a space capsule heading to an unknown planet. They must be very quiet. Fortunately, the girl is the world champion of silence. She wonders: why can she only take two bags, leaving almost everything that was once hers behind? What should she take?

The main character sets off towards a promised land, a symbolic place that shifts like ideas, dramas, and hopes, escaping the madness of a devastated country so that tomorrow can be possible in another country. The child's perspective intertwines with the actress's memories of her own migration. This play confronts the audience with the reality of those who choose to leave but also with refugees and irregular immigration. It explores the dreams and hopes that lead us to embark on the greatest adventures.

Mañana es otro país is a show born in Turkey and presented in Belgium, Slovenia, England, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, and France. After traveling the world in a truck, the play is presented for the first time in a theater. It is an original creation for Chile in collaboration with actress María José Parga.

She is a character who never victimizes herself, never tells the drama she had to go through directly, but, deep down, takes us on this journey through her imagination.”

Biographies:

Michael de Cock

Artistic director of KVS, he is an author, actor, and director, with many titles to his name. From 2006 to 2016, he was the director of Theater Arsenaal in Mechelen. Since the 2016-17 season, he has been responsible for the artistic policy of KVS.

De Cock is a prolific author with many titles to his credit and regularly contributes articles to Knack, De Standaard, and De Morgen. His work has been published in more than ten languages. He is considered an expert on Europe and migration in the Flemish context. He has adapted several stories into screenplays, such as "Achter de wolken," "Rosie en Moussa," and the recent "Aller/Retour."

De Cock started bringing the theme of migration to the theater years ago with creations like "Haven010," "Febar," "Saw it on television/DIDN'T UNDERSTAND," and "Kamyon." The last two were international successes. He also toured the world with "L'Homme de La Mancha," his co-creation from 2018 with Junior Mthombeni. At KVS, he also stood out with "Odysseus. Een zwerver komt thuis," his complete staging of "The Odyssey" in a translation by Patrick Lateur, resulting in a 24-hour theatrical marathon. In 2019-20, he adapted Virginia Woolf's work, "Mrs Dalloway," for the stage with Spanish director Carme Portaceli, with whom he also adapted Flaubert's "Madame Bovary."

María José Parga

A performing artist, trained as an actress and creator at the School of Theater of the University of Chile, and as a dancer and performer with prominent masters of contemporary dance, singing, and improvisation for performers, both in Chile and abroad.

She was one of the co-founders of the now-disbanded company Teatro de Chile, an indisputable reference in the theater of the 2000s in Chile, with works like "Prat," "Juana," "Cristo," and "Ernesto." She also works as an actress alongside other prominent Chilean creators: Ana Harcha & Francisca Bernardi, Fernando González, Néstor Cantillana, José Luis Vidal, Cristian Plana, Juan Pablo Peragallo, Rodrigo Pérez, among others.

Between 2013 and 2021, she resided in Belgium, where she collaborated with local artists and companies on various theater and performing arts projects. Between 2018 and 2019, she traveled with the Belgian circus company Carré Curieux, Cirque Vivant!, collaborating logistically and artistically. The "Mañana es otro país" project arises from a fruitful collaboration between Michael de Cock, playwright and director, María José, and Fundación Teatro a Mil.
