Testosterona
World premiered during the Teatro a Mil 2024 International Festival, Testosterone was selected for its daring aesthetic and narrative innovation, the result of a year of laboratory work and experimentation between Alarcón and Vega, accompanied by a multidisciplinary team of renowned artists.
The performative work experiences the disconcerting effects of a child injected with that hormone, the disobedience of that growing body that migrates and wants to try everything; the masculinities longed for by the Nazis for their army's men.
Testosterone is born from childhood trauma and engages with new notions of the future. It pushes the known boundaries of non-fiction representations: it is theater, it is dance, it is performance, it is biodrama, it is video art, it is a sound universe. Through visual and musical experiences and procedures, it redefines the borders of our intervened bodies, bordering on the cyborg without losing sensitivity.
The trigger for this play is the first-person testimony of Cristian Alarcón, director of Revista Anfibia and winner of the Alfaguara 2022 award, who for the first time reconstructs this part of his personal history. Alarcón delves into his memory and his past to answer the question about what were the effects of the testosterone injection on masculinity. How can we think about a self-critical, reconstructed masculinity, a possible future, a new paradise?
The autobiographical, journalistic investigation and scenic play are the paths that articulate this artistic piece in a triple-order assembly: sound, visual and corporal.

Cristián Alarcón
Writer and journalist. Winner of the Alfaguara Novel Prize 2022. Since the early 90's he has been dedicated to investigative journalism and chronicle writing in newspapers and magazines. In his books Cuando me muera quiero que me toquen cumbia (2003) and Si me querés, quereme transa (2010) he crosses literature with urban ethnography turning urgent stories into non-fiction novels. In the book Un mar de castillos peronistas (2013) he writes travel chronicles and profiles of dissident characters. He founded the magazine Anfibia and the site Cosecha Roja.
