Neuma, from de Greek pneûma 'spirit', 'breath', is a dance piece that pays special attention to how an image is presented, how it unfolds and transforms in time. With intend to details, sometimes close to a photographic and sculptural perspective, it transits between stillness and movement. Neuma takes the act of breathing as a physical practice and through the superimposition or subtraction of layers of movement and sound, brings the image closer or further away from the idea of strangeness. From thoughts in relation to the structure of a solo piece and questions about which are the bodies - besides the human - that participate in the scene, the way in which they are installed and behave; the work wonders about what we usually identify and name as alive or dead.
Neuma received the Award from the Critics Circle of Chile in the category “New Languages – Dance” in 2021.

Bárbara Pinto Gimeno es una coreógrafa chilena, licenciada en Danza de la Universidad de Chile y con estudios de Escritura Creativa en la Universidad Católica de Valparaíso y la Universidad Diego Portales. Ha dirigido seis montajes, en los cuales su trabajo se ha caracterizado por una fuerte estética visual y un delicado trabajo sobre la imagen y el tiempo. Además del formato escénico, ha trabajado con soportes como la fotografía y el video, siempre con una atención e intención por el cuerpo en movimiento y quietud. Desde una mirada contemporánea de las artes y el deseo por permear los límites de las disciplinas, ha combinado su labor coreográfica con la realización de talleres para niñxs y estudiantes. //
Bárbara Pinto Gimeno is a Chilean choreographer. She has a degree in Dance from Universidad de Chile and studies in Creative Writing at Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and Universidad Diego Portales. She has directed and created six works, where her work has been characterized by a strong visual aesthetic and a delicate work on image and time. In addition to the stage format, she has worked with supports such as photography and video, always with attention and intention for the body in motion and stillness. From a contemporary look at the arts and the desire to permeate the limits of disciplines, she has combined my choreographic work with workshops for children and students.

Neuma, del griego pneûma 'espíritu', 'soplo', 'aliento', es una obra de danza y performance que pone especial atención en cómo se presenta una imagen, se despliega y transforma en el tiempo. Desde el detalle, y un trabajo a ratos próximo a lo fotográfico y escultórico, transita entre la quietud y el movimiento. Toma la respiración para desde una práctica física y mediante la superposición o sustracción de capas de movimiento y sonido, acercar o alejar la imagen de la idea de extrañeza. A partir de reflexiones en relación a la estructura de un solo y sobre cuáles son los cuerpos - además del humano - que participan de la escena, el modo en que se instalan y comportan; la obra se pregunta sobre aquello que solemos identificar y nombrar como vivo o muerto.
Neuma recibió el premio del Círculo de Críticos de Arte de Chile en la categoría “Nuevos Lenguajes – Danza” en 2021.
