“When you go and see the play, you’re not sitting on a bench watching, but rather you’re part of the group of refugees. You stop seeing migration as a number: you’re living it, in a kind of shock theater”.

The company

Mantener viva la fuerza de la actuación

This group has a history spanning more than 20 years and is based at the Aldea del Encuentro in La Reina. Their work keeps the power of acting alive, using Eastern and Western theater traditions with links to the present to honor theater’s celebratory and ritualistic feel. The theatrical style of their pieces has been updated for our times but is nurtured by 3,000 years of tradition and symbolism.

Entre fuga y origen

  • 100 minutes

This piece brings to the stage the drama behind the men, women and children who are forced to emigrate each year from all over the world.

Entre Fuga y Origen is a play that tells the story of those who are forced to leave their countries for political, sociocultural or economic reasons or fleeing wars. Based on testimonies and stories collected by the company after researching, interviewing and documenting these, what unfolds on stage is a choral story that tells multiple different tales of migration. The space where this takes place recreates a refugee camp that the audience is invited into, making them part of a situation that thousands of people are currently in both physically and through sensations.

The production shows slices of life whose reality is full of nuances, from happiness to pain, fear to rage and back again. Leaving, travelling and arriving in a new country is the common thread uniting multiple characters: an epic journey of migration in search of a better quality of life.
