Mauro

EN

Direction and Dramaturgy by Eduardo Luna | A production of Lafamiliateatro and Teatro Finis Terrae

  • Chile
  • Spanish
  • 110 minutes
  • + 12 years

Based on real events, the play shows the fight of a community in northern Chile against the socio-environmental impacts of mining in their territory.

Written and directed by Eduardo Luna, Mauro is born from the concern to put the spotlight on a community affected by the construction of the El Mauro tailings dam, located in the Coquimbo Region. With 1,700 million tons of waste, the dam is considered the largest and most toxic in Latin America.

"Although this play is based on real events, the theatrical fiction allows us to trace a metaphor for the situation experienced by all the so-called “zones of sacrifice” in Chile," explains the director.

Faithful to Lafamiliateatro company´s documentary research style, which has already been widely applauded for its previous play Painecur, Mauro addresses a human tragedy and echoes the problems affecting thousands of displaced communities worldwide, uprooted and impoverished by the industrialized exploitation of natural resources.

In Mauro, the tragedy begins with the loss of water. A group of community members decide to go on a hunger strike.

It is a fiction based on real events.
