Mão is an urban performance about construction and the people who do the work. An eight-meter structure of iron and wood is built piece by piece through acrobatic moves, spins, and everyday gestures you’d normally see on a building site.
As the performance unfolds, the structure slowly rises in a choreography that stretches the audience’s sense of time. A handmade “work” takes shape in front of everyone — somewhere between concrete ideas and metaphor — created by men and women who spark expectations of risk, achievement, and the very real chance of human failure.
Here, the “work” reflects on the “work” itself: the piece that leaves the gallery, the person who created it, the city always under construction. The closeness between the performers’ actions and the regular movements of construction workers makes the audience feel like they’re actually part of the performance.
