Chile Takes the World's Most Prestigious Stages with Fundación Teatro a Mil's 2026 International Circulation

Throughout this year, and thanks to its PLATEA platform, the Foundation is bringing Chilean performing arts to 9 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, consolidating its role as a driving force behind the internationalization of the performing arts and strengthening new alliances with the Asia-Pacific region.

With 4,000 attendees already registered and a projected total of 10,000 by the end of 2026, Fundación Teatro a Mil continues to position Chile as an international creative benchmark, driving the export of symbolic and intangible culture. Built on more than two decades of sustained work through PLATEA: Professional's Week — which turns Chile into the epicenter of the global performing arts market — Fundación Teatro a Mil has forged international alliances and networks with a wide range of partners, positioning the country across all five continents. Through its two core lines of work, Creation and Circulation, the Foundation backs co-productions and represents companies that engage actively with the international contemporary scene, contributing to the value chain of Chile's theatrical ecosystem and extending the life cycle of its productions.

A Year of Intensive International Circulation

In 2026, Fundación Teatro a Mil's international circulation will span nine countries across three continents, with eight productions totaling nearly sixty performances combined.

Between March and July, companies represented by the Foundation have already performed in theaters and festivals in Lima, Amsterdam, Madrid, Montpellier, Quito, Qinhuangdao, and Avignon. In March, Estampida Humana, by Bonobo Teatro and directed by Andreína Olivarí and Pablo Manzi, was part of FAE Lima in Peru, while in Amsterdam, Nicolás Lange's The Killing of the First Person had its process opening at DAS Theatre, Netherlands. Between April and May, Feos, by Teatro y su Doble and directed by Aline Kuppenheim, was staged at Teatros del Canal in Madrid, and in May, Guillermo Cacace's Vania was part of the Printemps des Comédiens Festival in Montpellier, France — with additional dates across Latin America to be confirmed soon. In June, Estampida Humana continued its tour at Quito's Fiesta Escénica in Ecuador, while Teatrocinema's La Contadora de Películas was presented at the Aranya Theater Festival in Qinhuangdao, China. In July, Mi Madre Nada, by Daniela Castillo and Nicolás Lange, was part of the Festival Off Avignon in France.

The second half of the year keeps an equally active calendar. In August, The Killing of the First Person will have its world premiere at Theater Spektakel in Zurich, Switzerland. In October, Navegar por el Neva, by Trinidad González, Paula Zúñiga, Jorge Becker, and Tomás González, will be presented in Madrid and Barcelona, at Teatros del Canal and Flaix de Tardor. Additional tours are currently being confirmed for Miami, Wuzhen, Kraków, Girona, Bari, and Rome, among other cities, further expanding the reach of the circulation program in the second half of the year.

International Partnerships

Fundación Teatro a Mil maintains active collaboration agreements with the Watermill Center in the United States, Puglia Culture in Italy's Puglia region, ONDA in France, and the Aranya and Wuzhen festivals in China. In South Korea, the Foundation partners with ARKO and the Arts Council Korea, while in Spain it maintains an active relationship with Teatros del Canal in Madrid. The network also extends across Latin America, with active agreements with Funarte in Brazil, Colombia's Ministry of Culture, Peru's Ministry of Culture, and Uruguay's Comedia Nacional.

"For us, cultural cooperation is an exercise in reciprocity. Every alliance we build with festivals, theaters, and institutions around the world rests on exchange — and it's that exchange that makes culture a genuine tool for diplomacy between countries," says the director of Fundación Teatro a Mil regarding these collaborations.

As part of its expansion strategy, the Foundation has also strengthened its ties with the Asia-Pacific region, adding medium- and long-term alliances with institutions in Australia, China, and South Korea — further extending the reach of Chilean and Latin American performing arts beyond its traditional markets.

With this, Teatro a Mil and its internationalization platform PLATEA continue seeking new ways to strengthen this network of connections and international window for Chilean creation.
