Teatro a Mil is a performing arts festival that is held each year in January, mainly in Santiago de Chile and with versions in other cities countrywide. This project has been run by the Teatro a Mil Foundation since 1994 and has been supported for more than 20 years by Escondida | BHP under the Cultural Donations Law, with backing from the Ministry of Culture, the Arts and Heritage.

Like last year, this year’s festival will have a hybrid format, combining live performances with shows on multiple digital platforms such as Teatroamil.tv, social media, Youtube, and Zoom, and in the media. As opposed to last year though, our 2022 program will return to a mainly theater and street-based program, with more than 160 Chilean and international shows. We want the public to experience theater at venues, in parks and in each and every corner of our neighborhoods again. All this will of course take place in accordance with the different phases of the government’s Step By Step Plan and all the health and safety protocols required to keep everyone safe will be applied.

The festival will be held from January 3 through 23, 2022.

The pandemic has not only changed the way we live and how we interact, but it has also made us take a close look at ourselves to find ways of dealing with crisis and uncertainty, reinventing ourselves and looking for ways to move forward.

In today’s world, art and culture have become an excellent opportunity to rethink our existence, society and country. Is there anything better than doing this all together? As in previous years, the Teatro a Mil Festival has an enviable opportunity to transmit an inspiring message. This time, it is aimed at reinforcing a sense of community, particularly after we have all been separated for so long. If there is a future, there is hope.

The live performances will take place at our partner theaters, whether in the capital or in different regions of the country. In addition, like in other versions, the festival’s spirit will also be felt on the streets, with outdoor areas and locations in different neighborhoods becoming part of the 2022 Teatro a Mil Festival. Our commitment to our audiences is to hold these performances according to all the required health and safety protocols, so that adults and children alike can enjoy the performing arts again, wherever this may be.

Our online (Chilean and international) performances will mainly be transmitted on the Teatroamil.tv platform and also on mainstream media.

After so long away from live performances, we are pleased that these can be held in every phase of the Step By Step Plan, as long as capacity and social distancing rules are obeyed. We would like to call on you to support those working in culture by going back to venues and taking to the streets where performances are held, in compliance of course with the protocols established by the authorities.

For shows with paid entry, the public can buy tickets directly at Puntoticket.com. For free shows in the country’s different regions, please follow us on social media or at teatroamil.cl, since signing up beforehand might be needed in order to comply with the maximum capacity allowed.

Our preparations have been as conscientious and responsible as possible and we have drawn up strict protocols so we can meet up together safely, avoiding infections. We need your help and commitment to do so though, which is why these are the main measures that will be in place at our venues:

  • Mobility Pass.
  • Compulsory use of a mask while in line, entering and during the function.
  • Keeping a physical distance of 1.5 meters between you and other people.
  • Washing your hands often.
  • Wiping your feet before entering the venue.
  • Not using blocked off seats.

If a performance has to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, this will be informed in advance on teatroamil.cl and via the festival’s social media (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter). If it is a paid-entry play, we guarantee to either refund your money and/or replace your ticket for one for another play.

Following through on our commitment to both artists and the public, we will also try and reschedule this play for a date later on in the year.
