Panel
With Javier Ibacache
Javier Ibacache Villalobos, one of the most influential critics and programmers in the Latin American performing arts scene, presents the program for PLATEA Professionals’ Week 2026.
Javier is the Chair of the Board of the Centro Cultural La Moneda. He previously served as Director of Programming and Audiences at the Centro Cultural GAM and led major audience-development initiatives at Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage. He is currently the Director of Programming at the Centro Cultural CEINA and teaches at the university level.
In this talk, Javier will offer a contextual perspective on Platea and Teatro a Mil, positioning the festival within the broader ecosystem of performing arts in Chile and Latin America. He will reflect on the festival’s cultural role as a space for artistic exchange, audience development and social dialogue, and will analyze how Platea’s programming engages with the country, responding to the current challenges and opportunities of the region.
This activity is designed especially for first-time participants and for anyone curious about the Latin American context, its artistic explorations and its cultural reach. It will provide a deeper understanding of the week’s program and help attendees make the most of the Platea experience.
