What happens when one of the people in a years-old relationship, with whom you have children, memories, unforgettable stories and a sex life that is alive and kicking, decides to end the relationship from one day to the next? This is what La Clausura del Amor is about.

Wherever it is performed, the writer asks that the main characters have the same names as the actor and actress playing them. In this case, Pancho, (Francisco Melo) is a theater director who is waiting for his partner, Daniela (Daniela Lhorente), a renowned actress, to come home so he can tell her that their relationship is over. He goes first, revealing the torment, boredom and indifference that have led him to make this decision. She then responds brilliantly to each of his reasons for this unexpected, one-sided separation.

The performers go through all the usual states and emotions of a painful break-up, from the most heartbreaking to the most absurd, with a dose of humor mixed in for good measure. Sexuality, children, agreements and contracts to the most intimate details of their relationship are all dealt with in this magnificent script.

The play is set on a theater stage and Andrea and Octavio Gana’s Delight Lab is in charge of creating different atmospheres and settings using mobile and atmospheric lighting to quite literally either expose or cast shadows on this couple’s intimacy and emotions. They are two beings under a relentless, bleak spotlight, in a fog, among shadows and secrets. Light or its absence expose the fragility of love, devotion, secrets, instability, decline, passion, a lack of transparency and the nostalgia of two bodies as love disappears.
