Compañía Danza Reverso

Searching for a multidisciplinary style

This group was founded in the city of Puerto Montt in 2013, with their work based on creative processes, experimentation and training, all linked to contemporary dance. They particularly stand out as authors, looking to create their own contemporary style from a Latin American perspective. They research the notions of movement, the body, words and images, considering aspects that are both hybrid and interdisciplinary. They understand dance as an open and diverse medium that should be inclusive, collective and collaborative and, from a territorial and regional point of view, they plan their work both in Chile and abroad. “We firmly believe in working from the margins. That’s why we work from the south”, say the group’s members.

-It is a play for all the family, but especially for younger generations. Told in a lavish style but in a language they understand, it helps them reflect on what is going on in the world.

-Its message is about the importance of appreciating the beauty of life and simple things: the joy of eating an orange, our fascination with the strange shape of eggs and chickens or the mystery that is the sun or watermelons.

Video dance: This genre emerged as a result of the experimentation between dance and image capture techniques. It dates back to the appearance of video art and the beginnings of cinema and evolved in parallel with these over time. It is not a record of a dance on video, but rather dance and the camera form a symbiotic relationship. In this kind of play, the creation of the choreography typically only exists on film or video. “Neither the dance nor the method of rendering are in service to each other, but are rather partners or collaborators in the creation of a hybrid form”, says North American producer and theorist Douglas Rosemberg.

A play for children that reflects on the never-ending circle of life and time.

Círculo is a contemporary dance piece created especially for children. Its style of dance is both stunning and dynamic, constantly challenging their imaginations in a piece that is half planned, half improvised.

What is a Círculo? A mouthwatering slice of watermelon. My mother’s eyes. The moon. The earth. We are atoms that dance and multiply! This play is about the never-ending circle of life and time, inviting us to embark on a thoughtful and hilarious journey. It is a play that awakens children’s feelings and is ideal to go and see as a family and then have a think about.
