The first part of the Final Trilogy of Teatro La Provincia, a monologue where an overwhelmed Oedipus, played by Cristián Carvajal, presents a profound questioning of the theatrical work in times of change.
This is a tragicomic moment. The actor tries to represent Oedipus in exile, that is, Oedipus after finding out everything, (that he killed his father, that he married his mother, and that they had many children together), after removing his eyes and in the last days of his life. But the actor also faces his own shipwreck; he no longer knows where the theater is. Perhaps the oracle, in the old tragic style, can give him some half-serious answer, in this half-theater or stand-up tragedy or sequence of badly told jokes, where the bad taste of failure represents itself on stage.
Oedipus Stand Up Tragedy is one of the three plays that, along with Hablan and Los ojos de Lena, make up the Final Trilogy with which Teatro la Provincia celebrates its 30th anniversary. All of them have been worked from the dramaturgy by Leyla Selman in close collaboration with Rodrigo Pérez, director of the company.
