Euripides Laskaridis
Director and performer Euripides Laskaridis works at the intersection of dance, theater and visual arts. His works are exhibited at major performing arts institutions around the world, offering a distinctive fusion of genres and styles that are at once humorous and strangely poignant. Dubbed the “enfant terrible” of Greek choreography by Libération, Euripides has also received the first Pina Bausch Fellowship. He is currently continuing his research on the themes of ridicule and transformation, with his current stage work, LAPIS LAZULI, premiering in April 2024.
“Colorful new transformations turn the flirtation with danger into an ode to nostalgic horror films. Beneath all the masks, deeper themes emerge as the impact of fear, violence and trauma on dreams and memories. “What a difficult life, what a beautiful spectacle....”
-Annette Embrechts // from Volkskrant
“LAPIS LAZULI by Laskaridis comes in a way straight from the future, almost screams in the face of the mundane and leaves on stage the legacy of a daring artist, determined to continue to create with defiance leaving aside the traditional conservative clarity that contemporary theater, unfortunately, often seeks.”

By Euripides Laskaridis
The avant-garde Greek director Euripides Laskaridis, winner of the prestigious Pina Bausch scholarship in 2016, lands for the first time at the festival with LAPIS LAZULI, a work that invokes the earthly and celestial origin of the semi-precious stone, to explore on stage the transformation and the ridiculous in a hybrid show that mixes dance, performance and visual arts.
Following RELIC (2015), TITANS (2017) and ELENIT (2019)-three stage works that continue to tour worldwide-Euripides Laskaridis presents his latest touring stage work entitled LAPIS LAZULI.
Capable of conjuring magic from the most diverse and ordinary materials, Laskaridis is the creator of a unique hybrid form of performance that seamlessly spans the realms of performance, dance and visual arts. In LAPIS LAZULI, he continues his exploration of the themes of transformation and the ridiculous, while fusing elements of the grotesque, the comic and the terrifying.
Drawing inspiration from the fascinating blue semi-precious stone of the same name, famous for its unpredictable behavior under pressure, Laskaridis creates a captivating and enigmatic new world full of intriguing dualities. The very name of the stone, lapis lazuli (often interpreted as the “Stone of Heaven”), alludes to an origin at once earthly and celestial. It was precisely this duality inherent in the stone's name that ignited the artist's quest to meticulously weave on stage a tapestry of seemingly contradictory variations.
LAPIS LAZULI is an international co-production involving Greece, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Finland and Bulgaria. It premiered in April 2024 in Athens (Greece) and is now on an intense tour that has it touring the world.
“Laskaridis shows us that contemporaneity does not have to be serious, minimalist and abstract.... A crystalline aesthetic criterion and an authentically unique style”.
