Writer and journalist. Winner of the Alfaguara Novel Prize 2022. Since the early 90's he has been dedicated to investigative journalism and chronicle writing in newspapers and magazines. In his books Cuando me muera quiero que me toquen cumbia (2003) and Si me querés, quereme transa (2010) he crosses literature with urban ethnography turning urgent stories into non-fiction novels. In the book Un mar de castillos peronistas (2013) he writes travel chronicles and profiles of dissident characters. He founded the magazine Anfibia and the site Cosecha Roja. There he has experimented with the limits of non-fiction narrative until taking it to a final experience of journalistic performance.
Directed by Lorena Vega | Playwriting by Lorena Vega y Cristian Alarcón
In this performance, writer and journalist Cristian Alarcón revisits his own case of hormone injection during the 1970s, as part of a "homosexual conversion" therapy.
Testosterone is a performance about masculinities, body, and identity, based on an investigation of cases of "homosexual conversion" through hormone injections during the 70s. Its trigger is the first-person testimony of Cristian Alarcón, director of Revista Anfibia and winner of the Alfaguara 2022 award for his novel Tercer paraíso, in which he for the first time reconstructs this part of his personal story.
Alarcón delves into his memory and his past to answer the question of the effects of testosterone injection on masculinity: how can a self-critical, reconstructed masculinity be thought of, as a possible future, a new paradise? The autobiographical, the journalistic investigation, and the scenic game are the paths that articulate this artistic piece in an assembly of triple order: sound, visual, and corporal.
