For the second consecutive year, China lands at the Teatro a Mil International Festival, this time for the 2025 edition with a show of the traditional 500-year-old Wu Opera, a genre that rescues Chinese popular art and the classic opera works that will have the audience enjoy both visually and aurally.
Wu Opera, also known as Jinhua Opera, is the second theater genre in Zhejiang and has a history of more than 500 years. It is an operatic genre of rural origin, characterized by a rich and colorful repertoire, a varied theme and a cast of peasants turned performers. The stories respond to popular taste, with an emphasis on everyday life, but with interesting twists. The music is clear and sonorous, bordering on bombastic. In terms of acting styles, the acting lively reflects real life, with clear speech and a strong dose of emotional expressions. The same can be seen in the costume design, with bright, strong colors and stark contrasts for a striking effect.
