Diaspora, by trans artist Renata Carvalho, is an ode, a celebration, and a presentation of Brazilian traviarcas.
It narrates the journey since the early 1950s when the first hormonal transvestites returned from Europe, which was the escape to fully live their trans/transvestite perceptions.
She investigates the places she has traveled through the country, asking questions such as: what are the trans rights in the country? how is a transvestite immigrant welcomed in this country? how is the citizenship process for Brazilian trans people? how are these bodies treated on a daily basis? To create this show Renata has already been supported by FIT Cadiz, Naw Ivanow in Barcelona, and soon a residency at Theatre Spektakel in Basel.
