Pauchi Sasaki

Director

Interdisciplinary experimentation

This Peruvian composer blends styles and mediums in her artistic creations. Her work is focused on improvisation, on developing multimedia performances and on setting film, dance and theater to music. In an intimist way, Sasaki creates electroacoustic compositions that are born from the fusion between classical instruments and those she makes herself, bridging the gap between the sounds of experimental electronic music and the traditional world.

-It is very relevant today, since it highlights the historical exclusion of women throughout history and from different spheres of knowledge, juxtaposing elements such as the body, power and technology.

- Its creator, Pauchi Sasaki, has received multiple honors over the course of her career. For example, she was chosen to be the protégée of composer Philip Glass and won Best Soundtrack at the 29th Ceará Film Festival (2020) and the IBERMÚSICAS Award for creating a soundtrack using new technology from the Mexican Society for Music and Sound Arts (2016).

-The multimedia and innovative nature of her work blends different elements into a composition that brings different disciplines together in harmony in an experience conceived as both digital and live, leading to creations such as a dress made out of sound.

Work in progress: In the artistic world, this phrase is used to refer to plays that are not yet finished but that are performed during the creative process in order to receive feedback.

Artemis: This goddess from Greek mythology was the daughter of Zeus and Leto. She was the goddess of forests and hills and one of the 12 Olympians. As patron goddess of the ancient Spartans, Artemis also used to receive many sacrifices as offerings prior to military campaigns.

A multimedia opera that goes straight to the heart of the creative process of one of the most outstanding Latin American artists today.

As part of the transmedia and multiplatform opera of the same name, Artemis is a work in progress that intends to be both live and digital. The play is based on a NASA program, nicknamed the ‘Greek Goddess’, that aims to take the first woman to the surface of the moon in 2024, more than five decades after the first lunar landing by a man.

Based on cultural and gender studies, it explores the relationship and juxtaposition between the female body, metal, technology and power, using sound and interfaces like the Speaker Dress, a wearable sound sculpture made up of more than 100 speakers, amplifiers and microphones.
