Teatrocinema

Company

TeatroCinema is one of the fundamental companies of the Chilean theater scene. Its origins date back to the eighties when the company La Troppa was born, creating unforgettable plays such as Gemelos or Pinocchio. In 2005, two of its members, Laura Pizarro and Juan Carlos Zagal, re-founded under the name of Teatrocinema, a multidisciplinary artistic collective whose language fuses essential elements of theater, film and comics. From this stage emerged Sin Sangre, El Hombre que daba de beber a las mariposas, Historia de amor and La contadora de películas. Teatrocinema has performed in the most important international theaters and festivals of the world circuit, such as the Festival d' Avignon, the Edinburgh Festival, the Lincoln Center and the Odeon Theater in Paris.

One of the most attractive and unclassifiable pieces written by German composer Gustav Mahler returns in the original TeatroCinema version, with a single performance intended for the celebration of Teatro a Mil’s 30th anniversary.

The Song of the Earth (Das Lied Von der Erde) is one of German composer Gustav Mahler's most unclassifiable works, imbued with an existentialist spirit that navigates through chaos, confusion, beauty, and death. The piece returns to the stage under the original vision of the local company TeatroCinema and directed by Juan Carlos Zagal. The production fuses theater, film, comic, music, lyrical singing, and orchestra, and it was first commissioned in 2018 by Los Angeles Philharmonic. Now it returns with a single performance to the Aldea del Encuentro (with Uli Schauerte's virtual orchestra and the interpretations of mezzo-soprano Evelyn Ramírez and baritone Javier Weibel).
